Transphobia is a real D&I concern around the world. Until now, transphobia has only been measured by asking people directly about how they feel. But what we know from decades of unconscious bias research is that sometimes we don’t openly admit our biases, or we are just not aware of our biases. In my most recent publication, we developed the first tools that measure people’s unconscious bias toward transwomen and transmen. Here’s a couple of key highlights:

1)     Most people report they are not transphobic, but their unconscious bias test scores show otherwise

2)      People’s unconscious and reported biases toward transwomen versus transmen are different, which match transwomen’s general experience of facing more bias

3)      Unconscious biases measured by these tools are better at predicting people’s support of transgender HR policies than typical surveys
